Depression

Have you ever felt as though your life is just on auto-pilot?

Like you’re just doing what you can to get by, but not even enjoying the accomplishments you do have?

Or are you feeling like you’ve missed the boat, gotten stuck, and are lagging behind everyone else?

If you answered “Yes” to any of the above, you might be going through a spell of depression.

Spells happen to all of us. However, if you’ve felt this way for awhile, and life hasn’t gotten any lighter or brighter, talking to someone will help.

“I don’t think you can help me.”

One client began her first session with me with these powerful words. She added, “I’ve always been depressed, and I always will be. There’s nothing you can do.”

I replied,

“There are 100 things that we can try before we reach that conclusion.”

And there are.

Fortunately, there are many different types of therapy which not only help with uncovering the reasons why you may be depressed, but also figuring out, for you specifically, how we can get you unstuck and moving forward. There are also many coping skills that we can learn to help ourselves through hard times.

Some of the therapy techniques I use are:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

I didn’t know any of these skills until I went to school to be a therapist. It’s a shame that they are not taught in any of our formal education systems. But you can learn them, just as I did, and apply them to your life.
