Anxiety / Panic Attacks
Anxiety and panic attacks can be frustrating.
Who wants to feel like they’re going to fall apart?!
Here are some ways that my clients describe anxiety:
“Whenever I know I have to talk in front of a group, I feel my heart starting to race…”
“It came out of nowhere! Suddenly, I felt overwhelmed and like I was going to faint…”
“I wake up in the morning stressed and am stressed pretty much for the entire day…”
These show the various ways that anxiety can manifest.
Sometimes, it’s tied to a particular trigger, like socializing.
Sometimes, annoyingly, there is no trigger that you can discern.
Sometimes, anxiety is a constant.
If you do not have any way of understanding what is happening to you, when you have anxiety, then it would make sense that:
Anxiety is scary.
You do not want to do certain things, go to certain places, or talk to certain people.
Anxiety can be embarrassing, hard to predict, and control…
… Until you’ve had someone walk you through it.
There are many therapy techniques to help you understand and manage your symptoms and regain a sense of control. I will walk you through various coping skills that you can learn to regain a sense of peace and calm.
The techniques I typically teach/use include any or all of the following:
Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR)
Progressive muscle relaxation
Exposure therapy (for phobias)
Interoceptive exposure
DBT Emotional Regulation skills
We will discuss and decide together which one(s) make the most sense for you.
I will walk through each technique with you, every step of the way.
